Oh Rome! Who doesn’t dream of going to Rome?

Rome can be an expensive trip to plan but there are definitely chances for good deals to make the trip affordable and possible! Every time I looked, the minimum for 2 people was at least £700 – this is highly likely due to the time of year I was looking at, and also airports I could fly from. Unfortunately, London is not close to me so it’s not an option.

But before we get into the details, this blog has various links embedded so you can quickly access the things I talk about. I will still share my honest thoughts and only recommend what I would do myself.

I did finally manage to find a deal! I found flights in early October for around £100 return (including seats) – and although it is a bit higher than a lot of my previous flights, it’s the cheapest I have seen in a while and at a reasonable time of the year (where it’s not cold or raining all the time). These were in the Ryanair sales about 2 months before October. We flew from Manchester and did a weekend trip to not use up much annual leave!

We stayed 3 nights at an Airbnb (Colourful spot in prime location by Sara), about 25 minutes’ walk from the Colosseum. The apartment cost £400 for the 3 nights, but as we went with other people, we split the cost by 4.

So in total we spent £200 each on flights and accommodation!

I would recommend comparing Airbnb, Booking.com and Hotels.com to see what deals you can get. You can get extras or discounts through booking.com or hotel.com as a member so worth checking it out!

Vatican City – the lines for us were really long so we didn’t end up going inside the Vatican Museum and Sistine Chapel but we did walk around the city.

Top Tips:

• If you’re planning to go to Italy in 2025 be aware of the Jubilee which is a big catholic celebration where many pilgrims will make their way to Italy and specifically Rome. This means that prices can be more expensive and places more crowded. If you’re still set on Rome in 2025, make sure to book early!

• Look for cheap flights in airline sales and book accommodation early – for many airbnbs and hotels you can reserve now or pay a deposit now, and pay the rest later. This can help with breaking down and spacing out the cost if you can’t pay it all in one.
• If you’re worried about booking hotels through booking.com or hotels.com – you can book the hotel and then email the hotel separately with your reference to check if they have you on their system.
